WELCOME

We are located in Southern California.  Susan has 24 years of experience living among the free-roaming burros, observing their behaviors, and enjoying them, yet on the other-hand witnessing devastation, and became involved with rescuing, and rehabilitating them.  Then one day we discovered and fell in love with the miniatures.  Thus, we still have standard-size, free-roaming, burros, all around us. However, in the center of it all, Wee are the Haven for our pedigreed, Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys, also known as, Wee Ass Haven.

Our Mission Statement

What is our intention??  Well, we have visions!  First of all, we believe in these donkeys.  They may have a long going reputation as being stubborn, but we can tell you first hand, that donkeys are very smart, sensitive, and need a moment to think things thru at times.  Once they bond with an individual, and trust you, they will do anything for you.  They thrive on attention and attachment.  We want to:

1)     Promote the donkey and their magnificence.  Do you know about the significance of the cross they carry on their backs?  How significant was the donkey in the Bible who carried significant people?  During my elementary school teaching career of 30 years, I always kept Bibles in the classroom library.  I would use stories and words from the Bible for the students to make connections to when learning.  Now that I am retired, I can easily minister through the donkeys and use a different approach to educating people about donkeys and at the same time, about the gospel.

2)     Breed for the excellent performing donkey.  In Southern California, there are no NMDA sanctioned shows, nor in surrounding states.  Fortunately, some horse shows welcome donkeys, however, in most cases, the donkeys compete in the same classes as the horses.  We intend to build a herd of excellent movers, who can lengthen their stride and be able to compete along-side horses.  Have you ever seen donkeys with 3 trots - a slow trot, a medium or working trot, and an extended trot as do horses?  Hard to come by, but this is one of the excellent traits we breed for in our performance donkeys.    We also breed for excellence in considerate behavior, safe and trust worthy for children and families to enjoy and handle.

So what is our Mission Statement?  Put in a nut shell ----

We produce quality Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys with:

            Complete pedigrees

            Conformation

            Command performance

            Color

            Considerate behavior

Thank you, AssN9 Ranch, for getting us started and mentoring us.  You and many others have been good teachers; the greatest teacher of all being our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He has given us everything that we have and has guided us to be who we are today.

Why buy from Wee Ass Haven?

Many visitors comment on how friendly our donkeys are.  They are all handled every day.  We are fortunate to have a terrific group of volunteers who help us socialize our foals and also work with our donkeys.  Our donkeys are up-to-date on worming, vaccinations and hoof trimming.  Every donkey is microchipped and registered with ADMS.  We stand behind our donkeys whether you are beginning or bettering your breeding program, entering in the show ring, whether showing in halter classes or driving.  We also offer docile and loving pets.  By knowing each of our donkeys as family members, we are better able to pair new owners with the best mate that they are looking for, and assisting new owners in learning how to care for them.  We are always available for consultation.  If you are considering adding a mini donkey or two to your family, we encourage you to visit our little haven.  Whether you purchase your donkey from Wee Ass Haven or not, we welcome visitors and always enjoy talking donkeys.  We are open by appointment.

Volunteers

We are so fortunate to have a number of dedicated volunteers who have been with us for many years.   These volunteers are dependable, hard working, and are so good with the donkeys.  They have become our forever friends, and we hope they stay with us for a very long time.  We do not have a need for any additional volunteers at this time.

The Legend of the Donkey Cross

The story is told that the donkey that had been Jesus' mount on Palm Sunday, came to the hill of Calvary.

Seeing the tragic event taking place, he wished with all his heart that he had been able to carry the cross for Jesus, as he was the proper one to carry heavy burdens.

Ashamed of what was happening, the donkey turned his back on the sight, but would not leave for he wished to stay until all was over because of his love for Jesus.

In reward for the loyal and humble love of the little donkey, the Lord cast the shadow of the cross to fall across his back and left it there for the donkey to carry forever more as a sign that the love of God, no matter how humble, carries a reward for all of us to see.
